#38 Exchange Student Dinner

Hey,

Last Sunday, my LC organized a dinner for all of us exchange students and our families to meet the new students who just arrived for this semester. We went to a really fancy German restaurant and I enjoyed talking to the others again. There are 3 new students and they are very nice, we all had a good time.

The food was real German, it was so typical that they only had Schnitzel and sausages but nothing vegetarian and they had to make something special for me:D

Also, there was a guy with an accordion who walked around and annoyed everyone with his weird singing and in the bathroom and they played German folk music:D

My host family liked the food and on a table next to us sat the Carolina Panthers Coach and my host brother got really excited haha:D

Altogether we had a good time and my host mom came even though she is on crutches. At the moment, the new student from Austria lives at our house because his host family went to a mission trip for a week.

By the way, I got a role in the drama play and since the play already is in 2 months I have to stay after school almost every day now but it is really cool!

#38 Austauschschüler Dinner

Hey,

Letzten Sonntag hat mein LC ein Dinner für uns Austauschschüler und unsere Familien organisiert, um die neuen Schüler kennenzulernen, die erst dieses Halbjahr gekommen sind. Wir waren in einem ziemlich schicken deutschen Restaurant und es war cool die anderen wiederzusehen und sich auszutauschen. Es sind 3 neue Leute dazugekommen und die sind auch supernett, wir hatten alle ziemlich viel Spaß.

 Das Essen war wirklich typisch deutsch und zwar so typisch, dass es vor lauter Schnitzel und Würstchen nichts vegetarisches auf der Speisekarte gab und für mich etwas extra gemacht worden musste :D

Außerdem ist ein Mann mit einem Akkordeon rumgelaufen und hat alle Gäste mit seinem Gesang genervt und auf dem Klo wurden deutsche Schlager gespielt :D

Meiner Gastfamilie hat es geschmeckt und fast gegenüber saß der Football Coach von den Carolina Panthers, mein Gastbruder ist dezent ausgerastet haha:D

Insgesamt hatten wir also alle eine schöne Zeit und meine Gasmutter ist trotz Krücken gekommen. Momentan wohnt der neue Schüler aus Österreich bei mir im Haus, weil seine Gastfamilie auf einem Missionstrip ist für eine Woche.

Übrigens habe ich auch eine Rolle im Theaterstück bekommen, unsere Aufführung ist schon in 2 Monaten und deswegen muss ich jetzt fast jeden Tag lang in der Schule bleiben aber es ist echt cool!

#37 Update: Carcrash

Maybe you have been wondering why I didn’t write any blog posts last week, it was a really hard time for my host family but let me start at the beginning...
Last Friday after school my host sister told me that my host mom got in a car crash. At first, we didn’t know how bad it was but I was very worried about her. She spent the whole day at the hospital but they let her go home at night. A drunk driver is responsible for the accident, he is already arrested and was injured badly.
My host mom has some broken bones and needs surgery soon, she cannot drive for at least 3 months and our car is totaled. Fortunately, nothing worse happened, because it could have been a lot worse. My host siblings and I try to help at home as much as possible but it is still hard because I don’t just always have a ride and we all have to do a bit more.

This occurrence showed me personally how thankful we should be for all the people in our life, something unexpected could happen every day and suddenly nothing is the same.
What I really appreciate is how helpful people here are. Since the accident, we didn’t have to cook once because every night our neighbors or people from church brought dinner.
Of course, this situation isn’t easy for me, especially since my mother in Germany is in the hospital too and I try to be there for both sides.
I would really appreciate if you pray for my host mom and my mother!

#37 Update: Autounfall

Vielleicht habt ihr euch schon gewundert warum ich mich die letzte Woche nicht gemeldet habe, doch es war für meine Gastfamilie eine schwere Zeit, ich fange mal ganz von vorne an…

Letzten Freitag nach der Schule hat meine Gastschwester mir erzählt, dass meine Gastmutter einen Autounfall hatte. Wir wussten nicht genau wie schlimm es ist, aber ich habe mir ziemliche Sorgen gemacht. Sie war den ganzen Tag im Krankenhaus und wurde abends (sehr unberechtigt) entlassen. Ein betrunkener Fahrer hat den Unfall verursacht, er ist schon verhaftet worden und war schwer verletzt. Meine Gastmutter hat ein paar gebrochene Knochen und wird auch demnächst operiert, sie kann für mindestens 3 Monate kein Auto fahren und unser Auto war ein Totalschaden. Zum Glück ist ihr nichts Schlimmeres passiert, denn es hätte sehr viel schlimmer ausgehen können. Meine Gastgeschwister und ich helfen zu Hause so viel wie möglich, aber es trotzdem schwieriger, weil ich nicht einfach überall hingefahren werden kann und wir alle einfach etwas mehr eingreifen müssen.

Dieses Ereignis hat mir persönlich einfach noch einmal vor Augen gebracht wie dankbar man für alle Menschen in seinem Leben sein sollte, denn es kann so schnell etwas Unerwartetes passieren und auf einmal ist alles anders.

Was ich aber wirklich sehr schätze ist, dass die Leute hier so unglaublich hilfsbereit sind. Seit dem Unfall letzte Woche mussten wir kein einziges Mal kochen, weil jeden Abend Nachbarn oder Leute aus der Kirche Essen gebracht haben.

Für mich ist diese Situation natürlich auch nicht einfach, vor allem, weil meine Mutter in Deutschland momentan auch im Krankenhaus ist und ich versuche für beide Seiten da zu sein.

Ich würde es sehr schätzen wenn ihr für meine Gastmutter und Mutter betet!
