#47 Church in America

Hey guys,
I have been here for almost 10 months now and I go to church with my host family every Sunday. When we had our meetings to get prepared they always told us that most people in the US are very religious and expect that you go to church with them so I wanted to tell you about my experience.
Generally, the people and especially teenagers here are much more religious than in Germany. Everyone goes to church, they are different and freer, I barely know anyone who is catholic here. The churches are also very modern, there are bands playing that make good music and they teach something from the bible but connect it to nowadays. Many teenagers also go to youth groups, they play games and in little groups, you can talk to adults about stress or issues you have. Although at school teachers are not allowed to talk about God, everything else is connected to him, in the Pledge of Allegiance it says “One Nation under God” and the motto of the US is “In God We Trust”.
In the church that I go to the little kids are taught separately during service so they don't get bored. My host sister and I help every Sunday with the kindergarteners. We draw pictures, watch a video that explains a story from the bible and in the end they have to learn one bible verse. The kids are super cute and I’m happy to see them every Sunday. I’m so sad that I can’t go to church here anymore soon because it is so much fun and so different and modern here.

Tomorrow is my last school day!
Sophie :)
