#30 Thanksmismas in Iowa

Hi,

This weekend my host family and I went to Iowa to celebrate Thanksmismas with my Dads family. Now you’re probably wondering what Thanksmismas is, it is a mix of Thanksgiving and Christmas because it is too hard to bring the whole family together for both we just did it at the same time!

Friday, December 9th
On Friday I was only at school for a couple hours, I had a doctors appointment and after that, I had to pack because after school we already had to go to the airport. Our flight lasted for about 2 hours and fortunately we got first class. My mom, sister, and my brother were all sick so unfortunately, they had to stay home. At night we all arrived in the freezing and snowy Iowa and drove to our grandparent's house. They live in Greene, a tiny town and I didn't have service the whole time! When we arrived our grandma had muffins and ice cream for us, that was super cute!

Saturday, December 10th
Saturday morning we drove to my first Baby shower! It was so cute, everyone brought presents for the baby, you could make headbands, give ideas for a name and everything was in pink even the food!
My host dad grew up in the town, he gave us a tour and showed us his old High School and a bridge he helped to build.
When we had dinner that night I had corn from their own farm and although I’m not really a big fan of corn I have to say that was the best corn I have ever had :D

Sunday, December 11th
On Sunday we had the actual party, we all drove to a community house kind of and ate with the whole family. They had everything, Mac&Cheese, Turkey, Stuffing, Pie and so much more. After that, we couldn’t eat for the rest of the day because we were so stuffed and the family is so big that I didn’t really stand out :D
My host sisters cousins are all grown up, married and are either pregnant or have little kids so it was a bit awkward. Later my host dad's brother came by and his wife told us about the new show “Stranger Things” on Netflix which my sister and I are bench watching since then :D

Monday, December 12th
My host sister really wanted me to have food at a typical, country type of restaurant so we drove around for like an hour until we found one and had breakfast there. Now we are on a plane back home, our trips go always by so fast but it is so much fun!

Iowa is a nice state, there are corn fields everywhere and most people have their own farms, but I'm a real southern girl and like the sun in South Carolina haha :D

Bye, Sophie :)
